Types of Mixer Impellers
Mixing propellers to suit your agitation requirements
Whether you are mixing high or low viscosity fluids, it is important to choose the right type of impeller to suit your process. The right agitator impeller for your application will result in optimal turnover of your tank or pipeline contents. FluidPro offers a wide range of mixer impeller types to suit a range of fluid types, viscosities, industries and applications.
Mixer Impeller Options
Axial Flow Agitator Impellers
Axial flow impellers are low shear impellers typically suited to low to medium viscosity fluids. Featuring inclined blades, they are ideal for mixing, liquid blending and maintaining solids in suspension. Axial flow creates an up-and-down motion, providing efficient top-to-bottom mixing within your tank.
FluidFoil Axial Flow Impellers
FluidFoil impellers feature 30° angled propeller blades, which are highly suitable for low viscosity applications, or for pushing fluid downwards to achieve solid suspension.
P445 Axial Flow Impellers
These square-edged axial flow blades are designed to suit liquids and other substances of higher viscosity at lower speeds.
Marine Blades
Featuring a rounded blade similar to those found on boats, marine blades provide axial flow suitable for high-speed, low-viscosity applications.
Radial Flow Impellers
Radial flow impellers feature straight blades, meaning they create a sideways motion when they rotate, rather than shifting the liquid up and down. This sideways motion results in higher shear stress. Radial flow impellers have a lower tank turnover flow than axial flow and are suitable for dispersion processes and combination blending of gases, liquids and solids.
R490 Radial Flow Impellers
R490 radial flow propellers move fluids sideways for lower levels of fluid. They can also be used for inline mixing applications, such as in an inline dynamic mixer, to blend fluids directly within a pipeline.
Collapsible Blade Impellers
Folding or collapsible impellers feature blades that can be folded inwards, and which open when the shaft begins to rotate. They are a convenient solution for tanks, drums or other vessels with a small opening, such as a bung hole, where typical impellers cannot fit. Folding impellers fit through the bung opening and will not open until the agitator is switched on.
Folding Axial Flow Impeller
The folding FluidFoil axial flow mixer impeller is designed for portability, and for mixers with a limited tank opening. This makes them suitable as a tote mixer impeller, such as for an Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC).
Folding Radial Flow Impeller
Folding radial flow impellers allow for radial flow in vessels with a narrow or small opening. These folding turbines are ideal as a drum mixer propeller.
Folding Turbine
Small folding turbines can be suitable for smaller, air-driven mixers (such as the FluidPro DM-60 IBC mixer), suitable for mixing applications with a lower viscosity.
High Shear Impeller Options
High shear force is required to break down large agglomerations, typically in dispersion processes. Rather than traditional impellers, discs or slotted heads are used for these applications.
High Shear Dispersion Disc
High shear dispersion discs feature ‘teeth’ for breaking down larger particles, so they can be dispersed evenly through a mixture. Working at high revolutions per minute (rpm), they provide high velocity and shear force, allowing you to combine a variety of materials with different particle sizes to create a homogenous mixture.
Slotted Emulsifying Head
A slotted emulsifying head is ideal for breaking down large particles, so they can blend with smaller ones and create a uniform mixture. Particles are sucked through the slots of the head by vacuum suction, where the change in pressure state breaks them down. This is ideal for converting powders or solids to liquid mixtures, or blending immiscible products.
Speciality Mixer Impellers
We understand that your operational needs are unique, and we are able to offer a range of specialty impellers, tailored to your exact processes and requirements.
Viscopro
Featuring a funnel-shaped design, Viscopro is designed to propel high viscosity fluids at high velocity, or to mix fluids of variable velocities, such as ketchup, custard and hair products such as shampoos.
UltraShear
A specialty axial pumping impeller which creates flow in opposing directions. This design is ideal for medium viscosity fluids or gaseous substances with large mass transfer coefficients.
Static Mixer Baffles
Inline static mixers do not feature any moving parts, instead relying on the shape of the baffles and the flow of the liquid itself to create liquid turbulence. FluidPro’s static mixer baffles allow you to blend fluids seamlessly within your existing pipeline.
Custom Mixer Propeller Blades
We can offer a range of customised mixer impellers and blades to suit your exact requirements, from gate anchors to unique blade designs. Contact us to discuss your specific process.
Shaft and Impeller Materials
Different shaft and impeller materials can be required depending on your application, to ensure suitable lubricity, food safety or corrosion or chemical resistance.
FluidPro mixing impellers can be made from a range of materials, including:
- 316 stainless steel
- Titanium
- Mild steel
- Teflon
- Polymers (such as PVC or HDPE)
